Homelessness has been a big topic lately in Rochester, Minnesota.  In fact, you really can't drive around town without seeing someone at a corner asking for money.  Sadly, we have a lot of people in our community that are struggling now more than ever and living in their car, sleeping on a bench, hanging out in a bus stop when it is raining, or finding shelter in a tent is a way of life.

But what is their real story?  How did this happen?

If you don't know the actual answers to those questions, there are people who do...and they work at The Landing MN.  And just like every other nonprofit in our area, The Landing MN is seeing a huge increase in the number of individuals who need our help.

If you've ever wondered how you can help those experiencing homelessness in our community, you will want to grab tickets while you can for the 3rd Annual A Holiday of Hope Gala on December 1st.

A Holiday of Hope Gala is Back for its 3rd year in Rochester, Minnesota

About a year ago, on a night that was about 85 degrees, I went on the truck that goes out to help those in our community that are in the parks and living in various spots throughout Rochester.  I'll be honest - I don't have conversations with those who are experiencing homelessness very often, but that night, I learned so much and just chatted with people who didn't have a roof over their heads that night.  I handed them clothes that were in the truck, some food if they were hungry and quite a few bottles of water.  I have a really hard time with names - so sorry if I ever forget yours - but I NEVER forget a conversation, and I honestly had some of the best conversations with people that night who are needing our help right now.  Thankfully, there are several organizations in our area that help those struggling with homelessness and one of those is The Landing MN.

The Landing MN opened the new location at 426 3rd Ave. SE about a year ago to give individuals in our community a safe place to land.  If you haven't had a chance to take a tour, I highly recommend seeing this day center in person.  (Send me a message on my Facebook page - Jessica On The Radio - if you need help making those connections.)

As you have probably heard, the number of individuals in our community who need a safe place to land has increased and The Landing MN are meeting new people every week.  In December, you have a chance to hear more about the impact The Landing MN is making in our community at the A Holiday of Hope Gala.
