Northfield, MN (KROC-AM News)- An armed suspect is in custody after a search involving multiple law enforcement agencies and a shelter in place order.

That’s according to a news release issued late Thursday night by the Northfield Police Department. 

The shelter in place alert included the event area for the Defeat of Jesse James Days in Northfield. Law enforcement says the incident was not related to the popular celebration.

Suspect Armed With Firearm Captured After Lengthy Search Near Defeat Jesse James Days Celebration in Northfield

Officers responded to a call at Greenvale Apartments, located at 211 Greenvale Ave. West, where a 911 caller said “hurry please” and later told dispatch a person inside of the apartment was armed with a gun. 

Responding officers got the woman out of the building and later learned two men were still inside and that one of the men was armed and making threats, the news release says.

The armed suspect fled into a heavily wooded area before officers got into the building, police say. Authorities then issued the shelter-in-place alert and requested help from other agencies. 

The State Patrol helicopter and unmanned drones were sent into the air to assist with the search. After a lengthy search, law enforcement found the suspect who was being uncooperative, police say.

He was eventually captured by a Farmington police officer and K9, the news release says. Police have not released the man’s name. 

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and that a charging recommendation will be forwarded to the Rice County Attorney’s Office. 

No injuries were reported.
