When the National Weather Service issues the word "extreme" in an update for winter weather in Minnesota, a good chunk of us wonder why we are living here.  And we start to think about becoming a snowbird.

If you were in Minnesota or Iowa in the 90s, you will never forget the horrific storm on Halloween.  I was a kid in Iowa and remember going out trick-or-treating while it was snowing.  It was so pretty!  But when we woke up the next morning, ice coated trees and power lines and caused a lot of power outages, including at my house for weeks.  We didn't have power, our house was freezing, and my family had to go live with others in the community who had a wood fireplace.
