Free Rochester Event Providing Food, Haircuts, and More Has Been Postponed
It feels like everything costs more lately. With household spending increasing by about 18% the past few years on household goods, pinching pennies is no longer just a saying. For many families in Rochester, when money is tight, some everyday expenses are falling off of the "essential" list.
Sadly, an important event that helps provide free haircuts, shoes, hot meals, medical services and more in our community was just postponed.
Important Event in Rochester, Minnesota Just Postponed

Free Event, Project Community Connect, in Rochester, Minnesota Has Been Postponed
The town of Rochester, Minnesota is known mostly for one thing - Mayo Clinic. But beyond those marble walls and floors are a lot of people who are struggling. While many don't want to believe it, there are moms in our town that I've met who are not eating meals every day just so their kids can.
Affordable housing and homelessness are also hot topics in this town. While I wish we could just snap our fingers and fix it all with housing for everyone who needs it, our system is broken and isn't a simple or easy process. A few years ago, clearing out the camping sites of those experiencing homeless was a regular act and the tents and belongings of people were just thrown away. If you've ever tried to get an apartment, loan, bank account, or anything that is necessary to get housing, your I.D. and other personal documents are needed. When those are thrown away, it can be a long and costly process to start over. I know this because of the work that happens at The Landing MN. This is just one of the ways they are trying to help those in our community with the process of getting housed. It is NOT a snap of the fingers. It takes time, lots of work, and compassionate people to help navigate the process.

Lots of challenges for people in our community...those are just a few from people that call Rochester home.
“When systems feel overwhelming, community can be a powerful source of hope. Project Community Connect is about meeting people where they are and reminding them they matter. In a time when so many are carrying heavy burdens, this event is a reminder that community care is real and happening right now, because no one should have to navigate hard seasons alone.” - Jordan Boyum, Three Rivers Community Action
The past few years, Project Community Connect has been a day where anyone who needs help can just show up and get free food, help getting I.D.'s, haircuts and more - no strings attached. Based on the latest e-mail from those organizing Project Community Connect, this event that was scheduled for January 30th has been postponed.
Dear Community Members, Neighbors and Friends, After thoughtful consideration and discussions with the members of the Olmsted County Homeless Community Network, we have made the decision to postpone Project Community Connect, originally scheduled for January 30th, 2026. Our priority is the safety of all those who are part of our community, and we recognize that many are feeling uncertain or concerned right now. We believe it’s important to give everyone the time and space they need to feel secure and supported. We are currently working to reschedule the event for a later date. We will keep you updated on the new date and details as soon as they’re available. Thank you for your understanding, support, and patience during this time. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Townsquare Media is local, we care about our community and will provide updates on a new date for this event as soon as it is available. Listen to any of our radio stations, download our apps, or listen on-air to stay informed about events like this one in our community.
