Why Rochester’s Fire Dept. Was at First Alliance Credit Union

Did you know First Alliance Credit Union’s roots run all the way back to 1932—and to a group of local heroes? That’s the year seven Rochester firefighters and a teacher came together to create the credit union, all in an effort to support city employees struggling during the Great Depression. Pretty neat, right?

The Rochester Fire Department was at First Alliance Credit Union on 37th Street for training exercises that not only helped improve firefighter skills but also highlighted the long-standing connection between the two organizations.

“We really appreciate First Alliance Credit Union for hosting this training,” said Caleb Feine, Assistant Fire Chief at the Rochester Fire Department. “The exercises we’re doing today will help us build critical skills that are essential for our work and will ultimately help save lives.”

The training is part of the fire department’s ongoing efforts to keep its team sharp and prepared for emergency situations. For First Alliance Credit Union, it’s a way to give back to the organization that helped establish its foundation all those years ago.

“This is a special moment for us, as we’re able to support the fire department in a meaningful way,” said Brent Rempe, President and CEO of First Alliance Credit Union. “It feels especially important because we’re honoring the firefighters who founded this credit union, and we’re continuing that legacy of community support.”

First Alliance Credit Union, which has grown significantly since its beginnings in a firehouse, now serves over 20,000 members in Southeast Minnesota.
