Minnesota may be the Land of 10,000 Lakes but could we also be the land of 10,000 bottles of booze? Perhaps, at least when you look at just which alcohol Minnesotans buy the most at Costco, that is.

When you think of Costco, you probably think of buying huge packages of toilet paper or paper towels, giant tubs of guacamole, queso or other delicious dips, and massive packages of coffee and other food items, right?

Well, sure, Costco has all of those items and more. In fact, a new article by Real Simple found that the most popular items Minnesotans like to buy when they head to Costco are:

  1. Kirkland Signature Organic No-Salt Seasoning
  2. Kirkland Signature Three Berry Blend
  3. Kirkland Signature Italian-Style Beef Meatballs.

But, Costco is also known for its bulk deals on alcohol too, if your favorite local Costco has a Costco Liquor Sales store, that is. Costco liquor stores sell many name brands but also their own in-house brand, as well. According to Test Casinos, Costco's Kirkland Signature brand of spirits are known to rival or even beat top-shelf competitors that typically sell at a much higher price.

The crew at Test Casinos just did a survey to find out just which alcohol is the hottest-selling here in the North Star State and across the country. Overall, including all 50 states, here are the best-selling items:

  • 20 states chose a Kirkland Signature branded wine or spirit as their favorite.
  • Kirkland Signature French Vodka and Kirkland Signature London Dry Gin were tied as the most popular repeat winner, as favorites in 3 states each.
  • Costco’s selection is unrivaled, with 33 different wines or spirits taking the top spot in one or more states.

But just which alcohol do Minnesotans buy the most at Costco? According to the Test Casinos survey, that would be Tanqueray Dry Gin. It came in ranked first on the list and is the hottest purchase for Minnesota residents stocking up on alcohol at Costco.

Behind the Cheddar Curtain over in Wisconsin, the Test Casinos survey says the hottest-selling alcohol is Kirkland Signature French Vodka (I thought sure it would be a case of Miller Lite beer!) while down in Iowa, Kirkland Signature Sonoma County Old Vine Zinfandel is the top seller.

There's no doubt that Costco is one of the top brands around today, right? But will it ALWAYS be that way? Maybe not, seeing as some brands that were once very popular and well-known now no longer exist. Keep scrolling to see how many YOU remember.
