The Winners Are In for Rochester’s Crane Naming Contest
After weeks of submissions, followed by voting, we officially know the winners.
Mayo Clinic has announced the winning names from its massive “Name the Crane” contest tied to the ongoing downtown expansion project, and honestly, some of these are very Mayo and very Rochester.
Not going to lie though… I’m still a little shocked Purple Crane didn’t make the cut. That one deserved better.

The contest pulled in nearly 2,000 submissions and nearly 6,000 votes for the first-ever name contest. We really do love naming things, don't we? In Rochester, if it exists, it’s getting a name.
And in this case, it’s even better because these aren’t just names for fun… they’re names you’re going to see every single day while downtown construction keeps going for the next few years.

If some of these names sound familiar, that’s because Mayo previously released a list of finalists that people could vote on. And yes, some of them were absolutely incredible. If you missed the finalists, you can check out the full list.
There were also three names that came out of student-only voting in Rochester schools.

The crane naming contest was all part of Mayo Clinic’s massive downtown Rochester expansion tied to its Bold. Forward. Unbound. project, which continues reshaping the city skyline in a pretty major way.
According to Mayo's website, banners will be installed on each of the cranes proudly displaying their new names.
