Walmart Now Shutting Doors on Another Minnesota Store for Good
Walmart just dropped a retail bombshell that’s hitting Minnesota hard. Another one of its stores in Minnesota is now set to close its doors for good.
When it comes to discount department stores, while Minnesotans might have a fondness for Target, massive retail chain Walmart is also no slouch here in the North Star State, and is one of the biggest retailers in the country. As of 2025, Walmart says it currently operates around 4,611 retail locations across 52 states and territories.
You'll find 65 of those locations here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Well, actually that number will shrink to 64 Walmart locations soon, as the retail giant just announced that it's getting ready to close another Minnesota location permanently.

Store closings have been big news in the Bold North recently, especially after another Minnesota-based company, Cub, announced it was closing several of its grocery stores here. And now Walmart is joining the club.
According to The U.S. Sun, Walmart announced Tuesday that it will permanently close its location in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, soon. The store, located along Riverdale Drive Northwest, will close for good on August 29, 2025, the story said.
KSTP-TV reported the reason Walmart is now closing this Minnesota location:
A Walmart spokesperson says the closure is partly due to financial performance, the location being near other stores and that its older format doesn’t offer what customers want, like a full grocery department.
This isn't the first time Walmart has closed a popular store here in Minnesota; it permanently closed its Brooklyn Center location a little over two years ago, back in April of 2023, as well.
According to its official store directory, you can still find Walmart stores all across Minnesota. The chain currently operates two retail centers in both Blaine and Rochester, and single stores in the following cities:
