Why Is It So Hard To Make Friends As Adults In Rockford?
Making friends as a kid was easy. You sat next to someone in class, asked "wanna hangout" and suddenly you're best friends.
But as adults? It's a whole different story.
I asked on Facebook how people make friends as they've gotten older, and a lot of people had strong opinions. And honestly, a lot agreed that it's hard!
Life gets busy.
People get married.
People start a family.
Free time becomes a lot harder to find.
Plus, as we age, we tend to become a little pickier about who we spend our time with. One person shared, "You don't if you can't leave your house due to anxiety. It's very hard to make friends they day and age unless you're a gamer or something like that."
And while there's no magic formula for finding YOUR people, a lot of people said one thing matters: putting yourself out there.
Some said the best friendships happen when you're already doing things you enjoy. Join a group, take a class, go to events, or just start making small talk with people around you. You never know when a random conversation could turn into a real friendship!
Fitness classes were mentioned as a great place to meet people, and apparently pickleball has become a huge friendship starter, too.
Another piece of advice that stood out: Be authentic. When you're genuinely yourself and doing the things you love, you're more likely to attract people who are on the same wavelength.
So many making friends as an adult isn't about finding more opportunities to meet people... it's about being brave enough to show up! If anyone's looking for a new internet friend, I'm always here to hang!
