Illinois Beach Named One Of The Best In United States
I wouldn't consider Illinois a hot spot for beaches but one in our state was recently named one of the top beaches in the entire United States.

I'm a huge fan of going to the beach. Each summer, my family takes a vacation to the Gulf Coast of Florida and all I do for a week is hang out in the sand and water. It's so relaxing and a great way to clear my head.

Back when I was in high school and college, my buddies and I would head into Chicago on a hot summer day. Our favorite destination was Oak Street Beach located right on Lake Michigan. I've got a lot of great memories from the place.
Back in those days, it was a lot more primitive. The restrooms were old and scary. There weren't any concession stands or lounge chairs. You had to pretty much bring everything. One thing that sticks in my head is that the sand was always hot and the water cold.
Even though we have beaches in Illinois including along Lake Michigan, I would never consider our state a beach destination. Apparently, some people do. Oak Street Beach was recently named one of the 25 best beaches in the United States.
That's a cool honor for Chicago because, for many residents, that's the only experience they'll ever get at a beach. The city has made many upgrades to that area through the years. The facilities are world-class and there are many amenities available for guests.
