Thousands of eggs were ruined during an accident on an Illinois highway, and many residents are worried about their breakfast for this week.

It's funny because who would've ever thought that eggs would become such a controversial food item? Whenever you see or hear a story about the economy, the price of eggs is included in the content.

Eggs Burned In Illinois Truck Fire

Eggs are such a basic food. Until recently, they've always been pretty reasonable. It's not like they're gas. It's something that most people can afford to buy and it can be the main course of your meal. There always seemed to be plenty enough to go around.

It's funny because until the last couple of years, I was never much of a breakfast person, especially eggs. Now, I'm a huge fan. Of course, eggs had to skyrocket in price now that I like to eat them all the time.

As a fan of eggs, the last thing you want to see is thousands of eggs get destroyed. They're already too expensive, and there's supposedly a shortage. That won't help the price the next time I go grocery shopping.

Over the weekend, there was a semi-truck accident on I-80 near Mokena. The trailer caught on fire, and over 20,000 eggs were burned up in the flames. Could you imagine driving by? If I saw it, there would probably be a tear in my eye if I was hungry.

According to ABC 7 in Illinois, "There was quite the scramble on I-80 in Mokena Friday night. A semi loaded with more than 20,000 pounds of eggs went up in flames."
