While many people are sad about the demolition of Rockford's Briggs Mansion, there’s one part of its history that will always keep things interesting... the ghost stories.

Most Haunted Rockford Places

When it comes to ghosts and scary stories, I am a huge wimp, but that doesn't mean I'm not completely fascinated by them.

I've done my fair share of reading about Rockford's most famous haunted places. I've heard many spooky stories involving the Coronado Theater, Tinker Swiss Cottage, and Veterans Hall, but Briggs Mansion? That's a ghost story I've never heard before...until now.

Briggs Mansion Haunting

Briggs Mansion on E State Street in Rockford was built during the Civil War, had ties to the Underground Railroad, and has seen plenty of triumphs and tragedies in its 163 years, so it makes sense that it would be haunted.

But, how haunted is it?

On Tuesday, after news broke that the demolition of Briggs Mansion had begun, Travis Dahlhauser sent us a message about a ghost hunt he did at Briggs Mansion several years ago.

Travis said:

We reached out to them back when the mansion was being used for weddings and events. They thought it was a fun idea, so they agreed to give us a private tour, then lock us in for the night with the mansion all to ourselves.

Travis and his best friend Chad Glovier, who are both Rockford natives, have a web series called “Mission Terror” where they travel across the United States investigating unique places "to prove to everyone and ourselves that ghosts are real."

Travis said of all the places he and Chad have investigated, Briggs Mansion is one of their favorites. He also confirmed that "the greater Rockford area has so much history and so many amazing locations, it’s easily one of the most “haunted” cities in one of the most haunted states."

(YIKES!)

During their private tour of the Briggs Mansion, Travis and Chad learned a lot about the mansion's spooky side including a broken clock that mysteriously started working again, floating orbs spotted in several couples' wedding photos taken in the mansion. Then there's this proof of a spirit responding to commands:

We may not be able to experience the haunts inside Briggs Mansion for ourselves now, but do you think spirits remain on site? I guess we'll find out soon.

If you love all things spooky, check out Mission Terror on YouTube. I spotted videos from Tinker Swiss Cottage and Hope & Anchor on the channel, so I'm going to go watch those now... and probably have nightmares tonight. Lol!
