Rockford Police Launch Holiday Traffic Enforcement to Keep Illinois Roads Safe
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, law enforcement is launching a statewide initiative to keep roads safe from impaired drivers.
Holiday Crackdown Targets Dangerous Driving
According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, increased traffic enforcement will take place over the Thanksgiving travel period as part of Illinois' statewide effort to reduce crashes and impaired driving.

From November 21 through December 2, officers will join the Illinois State Police and local partners in "Click It or Ticket" and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" operations across northern Illinois.
Officers Focus on Impaired and Distracted Drivers
Rockford Police say patrols will be looking for seat-belt violations, speeding, distracted driving, and impairment caused by alcohol or drugs, including cannabis.
The effort aligns with Illinois' broader "It's Not a Game" safety messaging and is funded through federal traffic safety grants administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Tips for Staying Safe on the Road
Law enforcement is urging drivers and holiday hosts to plan ahead. Travelers are encouraged to select a sober driver, use rideshare services, and avoid driving after consuming cannabis, which can slow reaction time and impair judgment.

Police also remind drivers to call 911 if they spot an impaired motorist and ensure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seatbelt, which remains the best defense in a crash.
