Waterloo Native Tries for $4.56 Million On New Netflix Show

A Waterloo native is a part of one of the most highly anticipated shows on the planet.

In 2021, the hit tv show 'Squid Game' first premiered on Netflix. The show is about a secret and deadly contest in which people in desperate need of money play traditional South Korean children's games for a shot at millions.

It became an overnight global phenomenon. Due to the popularity of the show, Netflix quickly began planning a reality competition version of the games.

'Squid Game: The Challenge' has 456 real people compete in games straight from the original scripted show for a shot at winning $4.56 million. One of those contestants is a 31-year-old Waterloo native names Deandre 'Sip the Kid' Smith. He also goes by player 181 in the show.

Some spoilers ahead for Netflix's show 'Squid Game: The Challenge.'

Three players will be heading into the show's finale and unfortunately Smith is not one of them. The finalists for this competition show are Player 287/Mai, Player 451/Phill, and Player 16/Sam.

Smith was eliminated in episode three 'War' according to his official player page on the Netflix website. The iconic Dalgona cookie competition was his very last game on the show.

When the show premiered on the streaming service, five episodes dropped with batches of new episodes dropping every Wednesday at 2 AM. There will be ten episodes in total by the time it's all said and done.

Who Is Deandre 'Sipthekid' Smith?

Smith is a musician turned actor and host as well as a stay-at-home dad! The Waterloo native worked with the likes of Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Jay Leno, and Kel Mitchel. He has acted in fourteen movies and been a part of two shows including this Netflix program.
