Lake Superior Surfer Hailed as Hero for Rescue of Man and Dog
Duluth, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Twin Cities man is being hailed as a hero in Duluth where he is credited with rescuing a man and a dog from drowning in Lake Superior.
Duluth police say Darby Voeks traveled to Duluth on Wednesday to surf the waves on Lake Superior and while surfing at Park Point when he was approached by a woman seeking help. She explained that her dog had jumped into the lake and her friend then went into the cold water to save the dog but was now in distress.
A post on the Duluth PD Facebook page says Voeks responded by running about 50 feet to locate the pair and then jumped into the water to rescue them. By the time emergency responders arrived at the scene, Voeks had brought the man and dog safely to shore.
Voeks has been nominated to receive the Duluth Citizen Partnership for his heroics.
