In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lanesboro City Council in partnership with the Buffalo Bill Days Committee decided to cancel the event for 2020.

According to the City of Lanesboro's website, the decision comes with an effort to protect the community and the visitors.

"The Lanesboro City Council in partnership with the Buffalo Bill Days Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the annual Buffalo Bill Days event for 2020. This decision was made in an effort to protect our community as well as our visitors. We thank everyone for their patience and support as we have considered all the matters necessary for making this difficult decision."

Although the event is canceled for the year, the committee and the council made the decision to keep the annual fireworks show on Saturday, August 1st. They also plan to sell raffle tickets and sell commemorative t-shirts.

"The council and committee have decided to continue the tradition of the Fireworks Display on Saturday August 1st. Please stay tuned as we explore the best location. Additionally, committee members will be selling raffle tickets. The drawing will be held on Sunday August 2 in a virtual form. Finally a commemorative T-shirt is being designed we will share the details as soon as they are determined."

Buffalo Bill Days joins a long list of events that have canceled in Southeast Minnesota with the Fillmore, Winona, and Olmsted County fairs. The Minnesota State Fair and the Iowa State Fair are also canceled for the year.
