Lewiston’s Fools Five Road Race This Weekend

Since its inception in 1979, the Fools Five Road Race in Lewiston has raised over $2,000,000 for cancer research.  You have a chance to contribute to the cause this weekend.  In fact, the fun starts tonight at 4:30 p.m. at Lewiston Community Center with silent and live auctions.  More than 150 auction items have been donated for the live auction including Twins and Gophers tickets, quilts, food baskets, tools and much more.  The big day is Sunday April 2.  Race registration begins at 9 a.m. with the Fools Five Road Race starting promptly at one.  Special guest, Rushford-Peterson coach Tom Vix, will speak before and after the race.  

The first Fools Five Road Race was held in 1979 on April Fools' Day, an idea conceived by high school track and field star Dan Reinboldt and his coach Gary Mills.  The first race had 222 participants and raised $2,232. Proceeds are donated to cancer research at Mayo Clinic, The Hormel Institute, Masonic Cancer Center at the U of M, and Gundersen Health System.  To learn more about Fools Five, visit their website here.
