Mayo Clinic Health System Dr. in La Crosse Accused of Sex Abuse
La Crosse, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Mayo Clinic Health System physician is facing a sexual assault charge in Wisconsin.
The La Crosse Tribune is reporting that 40-year-old Dr. Joseph Poterucha was arraigned Friday in La Crosse County Court on a first-degree sexual assault charge involving a person under the age of 13. The newspaper reported his bail was set at $25,000.
The criminal charge alleges Poterucha had sexual contact with the girl at a residence in La Crosse and threatened to harm her if she reported it. The La Crosse Tribune reported that court records indicated La Crosse Police described the girl as appearing "visibly shaken" when she spoke with investigators.
The newspaper report says Poterucha denied the allegations, but also quoted prosecutors as saying additional charges are expected.
Wisconsin court records show Poterucha has a La Crosse address. He is due back in court next week.
