Mankato (KROC AM News) - Mayo Clinic has announced a major expansion at its Mankato site.

Mayo will invest $65 million in expanding the hospital surgical suite. Work is expected to begin this year. Mayo says the expansion and modernization project is part of a comprehensive plan to transform the Mankato site into a major regional medical center that is fully integrated with its Rochester campus.

The expansion will take place on the second floor of the hospital and will include 14 ultramodern operating rooms and 43 private pre- and post-operative patient rooms. Work should be completed by the end of next year.

Mayo will also spend another $5 million to renovate and expand the orthopedic and sports medicine clinic at the Mankato hospital.
