If you bought a new Toro snowthrower in late 2020 or early 2021, you need to stop using it immediately.  A recall has been issued for 6,700 devices due to an amputation hazard.  Yes, you read that correctly.  (FYI, this is one story you probably want to stick on your social media if you love your friends and family.)

Here are all the details about the recall that were shared on Toro's website:

  • Product Name: Toro Power Max Snowthrowers.  This recall is for Model Year 2021 Toro Power Max 826 OHAE Snowthrowers with Model Number 37802.  You can find the model and serial number on the back of the snowthrower.  Serial numbers included can be found here.
  • Reason for recall: The auger can fail to disengage when the control lever is released, posing an amputation hazard.
  • What to do:  Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Toro Power Max Snowthrower and contact a Toro authorized dealer for a free repair.  If you need help locating an authorized dealer, call Toro toll-free at 833-254-8856 to access the 24-hour Toro Dealer locator system, or online at www.toro.com/locator.
  • Where products were sold: The Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Toro Authorized Dealers nationwide and online at www.homedepot.comwww.acehardware.com, and www.toro.com from November 2020 through January 2021 for about $1,200.
