Minnesota Cracks Down on Restaurants Ignoring COVID Restrictions
The administration of Governor Tim Walz has announced enforcement actions against three restaurants that continued operating despite the COVID pandemic restrictions the governor ordered before Thanksgiving.
One of the restaurants, Boardwalk Bar and Grill in East Grand Forks is the target of a temporary restraining order issued Friday afternoon by a judge in Polk County this afternoon requiring it to abide by the governor's order, which restricts restaurants to take out and delivery business. State Attorney General Keith Ellison requested the court order after the restaurant operator ignored an earlier cease-and-desist order issued by the State Health Department.
The health department, along with the Minnesota Attorney General's Office filed a lawsuit Friday against Haven's Garden restaurant in Lynd, Minnesota. It has also remained open, serving customers on-site, despite being issued a cease-and-desist order. The lawsuit requests a temporary restraining order from the court requiring it to stop offering on-premise service.
The Department of Health also announced on Friday that it had revoked the license of the Iron Waffle restaurant near Nisswa in the Brainerd Lakes area. A cease-and-desist order was issued to the business in early August for failing to follow pandemic safety regulations concerning employees wearing masks. Officials say it briefly closed before reopening without complying with the regulations. A $9500 fine was issued against the restaurant prior to the revocation of its license on Wednesday.
