1857-Twelve counties are created. Six named for people important to the state's history.

1879-James J. Hill, Norman W. Kittson, and others combine several troubled railroads.

1884-Cannon Falls' first fire starts. It destroys a large portion of downtown.

1908-After a 10 year campaign, Minnesota National Forest is created. The campaign was done by the Minnesota Federation of Women's Club.
