Minnesota Man Rams Occupied Postal Service Vehicle at 80 MPH
Virginia, MN (KROC AM News) – A NE Minnesota man has been charged with felony assault for intentionally ramming a pickup truck into the rear of a US Postal Service vehicle at a speed estimated at 80 mph.
Arraigned this week was 56-year-old Alan Birt of Bovey. The incident happened last Wednesday in Hoyt Lakes.
The 55-year-old female letter carrier who was in the vehicle was ejected and suffered a life-threatening head injury and broken ribs.
Police say Birt was “combative” and it took four officers and a taser to subdue him. According to the criminal complaint, Birt admitted “he was upset with the US Postal Service” and purposely “crashed into the vehicle.”
The prosecutor is seeking a competency determination.
