Minnesota National Guard Soldiers Injured in Drive By Shooting

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota National Guard is reporting that two of its members suffered minor injuries when they were targeted in a drive-by shooting early Sunday.

A statement says the guard members and Minneapolis police officers were providing security in a North Minneapolis neighborhood near the border with Golden Valley just east of the entrance to Theodore Worth Regional Park when they were fired upon. Officials say the gunfire, which occurred around 4:20 a.m., came from a light-colored SUV.

"I am relieved to know none of our Guardsmen were seriously injured," said Maj. Gen. Shawn Manke, the Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard. "This event highlights the volatility and tension in our communities right now. I ask for peace as we work through this difficult time."

The Minnesota National Guard reported one of the injured Guardsmen was hurt by shattered glass and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The wounds suffered by the other soldier were described as superficial.
