The holidays are all about traditions and one of my favorites is checking out the Kiwanis Holiday Lights with my family. Each year, we layer up with lots of warm clothing and load up in the car to travel to Minnesota's longest drive-thru Christmas light show.

I took my family during opening weekend last year when the weather was still nice and we got of the car to walk around the attraction. My kids loved seeing all of the lights and meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus. Below you'll see some pictures from last year's huge light show and all of the info you need to make this an annual holiday tradition for your family.

Minnesota’s Longest Drive-Thru Christmas Light Show Will Open Soon

Volunteers will be putting the finishing touches on the attraction over the next couple of weeks before the event opens to the public.  Below  you can see just how spectacular this attraction is, when it's opening, and why I think you shouldn't drive through it.

Take a look at what miles Christmas lights neatly wrapped up in tight spools looks like.

2,000 volunteers are working hard right now to hang all of those lights and soon they'll flip the switch and nearly 2-million lights will shine bright through the end of the year.

Minnesota’s Longest Drive-Thru Light Show Is In Mankato

The Kiwanis Holiday Light Display is located at Sibley Park in Mankato. The holiday display is free to the public but cash donations are accepted. All money collected is given to area non-profits.

The Kiwanis Holiday Lights is an all ages attraction and there is no admission fee. Visitors are encouraged to bring a donation for area non-profits though.

Organizers say more than 200,000 people attended last year and over $80,000 was raised for local charities.

In addition to the lights, guests will enjoy holiday displays, Christmas music, live reindeer, and of course Santa will be there to greet everyone and talk to your kids.

Don't forget your camera! There are plenty of great spots to take amazing family photos which you can share with your friends on social media or use to make holiday greeting cards.
