MN US Attorney Plans to Charge Minnesotans Who Stormed Capitol
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The top federal prosecutor in Minnesota is pledging to bring charges against any Minnesotan who participated in the storming of the US Capitol on Wednesday.
Erica MacDonald, the US Attorney for Minnesota, and FBI Special Agent In Charge Michael Paul issued a joint statement today condemning the violence and acts of terror that took place at and near the Capitol building and described it as a reprehensible affront to our institution of democracy. Both law enforcement officials stated they are committed to upholding the rule of law and will hold accountable any individual who traveled from Minnesota to commit illegal and violent acts.
Agent Paul says the FBI is seeking information that will assist in identifying individuals who are actively instigating violence in the nation's capitol. He says the FBI is accepting tips and digital media that show rioting and violence at the US Capitol and the surrounding area in Washington DC. Anyone who can assist with the investigation is asked to visit the website FBI.gov/USCapitol.
McDonald earlier tweeted that the "storming of our nation's Capitol building is not protest, it's despicable, disrespectful, and a violation of federal law."
