Rochester, MNN (KROC AM News) - Olmsted County’s total of positive COVID-19 cases has risen for a fourth straight week.

The county’s Public Health Service department reported 211 new cases for the week ending Oct 19th, the second-highest weekly total since the pandemic began.

The highest was 212 reported for the week ending Sept. 21st. The number dipped to 162 the following week but has been rising since then.

The department reports a decrease in younger cases but an increase in patients over 40 years of age. The median age between 10/5-10/18 was 41 years old. This was a 10% increase from the previous two-week period.

The department says many of the exposures over the last two weeks were “connected to small social gatherings.

It also reports 15.4% of local cases have been asymptomatic.
