Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A local healthcare provider has launched a new service that allows consumers to access healthcare through their smart phones.

The Olmsted Medical Center says OMC eCare is an online diagnosis and treatment service that allows patients to use their connected devices, including smart phones, tablets and computers, to obtain treatment for over 20 common health conditions. The list includes allergies, cold and flu, pinkeye, sinusitis, urinary tract infection, cold sores, heartburn, and minor skin conditions.

"We know that there is a growing need for access to virtual care in Southeast Minnesota. By offering this new, online care opportunity, we will be better able to provide patients with fast and convenient access to quality healthcare at a lower cost. This new care option will be open to anyone, whether an OMC patient or a patient who receives care elsewhere. Patients will receive their diagnosis and treatment from an OMC healthcare provider and results from the online visit will be entered into the OMC medical record,” shared Carole Nistler, MD, Department Chair for Family Medicine.

The Olmsted Medical Center says the new eCare service uses software provided by Zipnosis, which is described as the first virtual care company. It allows OMC staff to use evidence based online adaptive interviews to diagnose the often easily treatable ailments. It’s available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and patients can expect a response within an hour of submitting their information.

The fee, which can be paid using credit, debit or health savings cards, is $35.
