Preston’s Chili Contest a Big Success (Photos)
Walking through the door of Preston Servicemen's Club Saturday afternoon, I was immediately greeted with the wonderful aroma of chili for the Preston Area Chamber of Commerce annual Bowls and Brews chili contest. There were 11 crock-pots filled to the brim with chili deliciousness. Everything from mild to spicy hot, chicken, venison, and even a chocolate variety! Four homemade liquors were available for sampling including a Bailey's mixture, Kahlua and bloody Mary mix complete with garnishments.
The public was invited to sample all 11 chili varieties and secretly vote for their favorite with the winners receiving Preston bucks. Listening to comments, I could tell the decision was not an easy one, with one chili being just as scrumptious as the next. I sampled only one, the chocolate chili which was finger licking good! Suggestions were given about possibly including soup in next year's contest.
When the votes were tallied, the first place winner was Bob Smock; second place Kari Odenbrett and third place Derek Berg. Congratulations!
It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. As a board member of PACC, I thank everyone who came out to sample, the 11 entrants for sharing their special chili recipes, and to The Club for hosting. See you next year! All photos I Edwards, TSM.
