Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A California company is considering developing a downtown area hotel project on the site of the Rochester American Legion Post, near Central Park.

City administration spokesman Brent Svenby says the firm first had contact about a year ago. He says the last communication was about a month ago.

Svenby says the firm has inquired about public assistance, such as tax increment financing. Svenby says at this point, the city has no interest in public participation in the project in part because planners have been looking at a nearby site for a possible large transit hub.

The project calls for a 12-story building that would include parking and hotel rooms.

The Legion’s April newsletter refers to the project with this information:

The potential buyer continues to meet with the city and DMC and the closing date is still set at approximately April 10th, 2017. It goes on to say “The sale depends on the city and DMC approving the proposal from the buyer.”
