Rain Gauge Reports

This morning I had rain gauge reports called in from our listening area of around a quarter of an inch. There were a couple of close to half an inch. The rain, cool temperatures and cloudy skies will snow down planting progress for a little while but soon it will resume full speed ahead! There was some corn planted in our area already on Easter weekend but many farmers have been waiting because the soil temperature has been quite low.

Farmers with a lot of acres to get planted started early while others that can get their corn planted quickly have been holding off for warmer weather. With the forecast for this weekend of temperatures in the 80's very soon you will see a lot of field activity. Almost all farmers report that field conditions are ideal (except for low soil temperatures) this spring.

If the forecast for this weekend holds by early next week I would expect that almost all the corn will be planted and some farmers have already been planting beans too.
