Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Council is expected to set the city's preliminary 2023 property tax levy this evening.

City staff is recommending a 6.85% increase from the current city levy, which would raise it to nearly $92.8 million. If approved, that would be the maximum amount the city could collect in property taxes next year, but the City Council could decide to lower the levy before it adopts the 2023 City Budget in December.

The preliminary budget for next year is currently around $588 million. That figure includes $202 million in capital expenditures and the $227 million budget for Rochester Public Utilities. The proposed general fund budget for next year is about $105.5 million, which would be an increase of about $4.3 million from this year’s spending blueprint.

The City Council has scheduled a public hearing on December 5th to hear citizens' comments and suggestions on the proposed budget and property tax levy. The Olmsted County Board and Rochester School Board are scheduled to set their preliminary property tax levies during meetings on Tuesday.
