Rochester Man Convicted in Case of Woman Raped and Held Captive

An Olmsted County Jury has found a Rochester man guilty of holding a woman captive for several weeks and repeatedly sexually assaulting her.

The jury has found 57-year-old Scott Ramey guilty of first and third-degree criminal sexual conduct. The trial began on Monday in Olmsted County Court and the verdict was issued Wednesday afternoon.

Ramey was arrested in January after a 20-year-old homeless woman told police that Ramey approached her at Central Park in downtown Rochester in November and took her to a storage shed near Cooke Park he used for shelter after allegedly showing her a gun, a knife, and a can of mace. The woman told investigators that Ramey raped her later that day and on 7 other occasions during the next several weeks.

The police reports indicated the woman eventually escaped and went to her father's home on December 8th. That's when police were contacted and marked the start of the investigation that led to the charges against Ramey.

The judge in the case ordered Ramey held without bail until his sentencing hearing on May 13th.
