Rochester Man Deemed Incompetent in Owatonna Stabbing Case
Owatonna, MN (KROC-AM News) - A judge in Steele County has ruled a Rochester man is incompetent to stand trial, but prosecutors have also given notice they intend to proceed with the case against Ron Jaeger if his status changes in the future.
The 34-year-old man was charged last June with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault for repeatedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend. The criminal complaint indicates the woman was stabbed 8 times and nearly died due to the loss of blood and damage to her internal organs.
Owatonna police were able to speak to her before she was transported to St. Marys Hospital and she identified Jaeger as her attacker. He was later caught driving the victim’s pickup truck in Dodge County and the criminal complaint indicates investigators found a knife and blood inside the vehicle.
It’s unclear when the court will next review his case.
