Rochester, Minnesota Has One of the Highest DUI Rates in the U.S.
A recent study found Rochester, Minnesota's drunk driving violations stand 71% higher than the national average. With the Thanksgiving and Christmas and other holidays coming up, this is something we should be worrying about.

- Drunk driving fatalities (statewide): 105
One of the closest city in the Top Ten comes in at #6.
Rapid City, SD
- Drivers with a DUI on record: 50.43 out of 1,000
- Statewide DUI rate: 8.28 out of 1,000 drivers (10th in the nation)
- Drunk driving fatalities (statewide): 45
This information comes from Insurify, and was just updated Monday (though some of the stats are from 2018).
National average. Across the U.S. cities surveyed, the average DUI rate is 17.07 DUIs per 1,000 drivers. The average DUI rate on the state level is 5.49 DUIs per 1,000 drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 10,511 drunk driving fatalities occurred in the U.S. in 2018. Insurify
Add this info to what we reported earlier this year and we need to be careful on our roads.
...and even though there are fewer crashes overall, there's been an increase in fatal crashes. Again, from the DPS -
- 2020: 31 fatal crashes (35 deaths)
- 2019: 22 fatal crashes (24 deaths)
