Rochester Snaps Cold Weather Streaks; Temps May Hit 40 Next Week
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Tuesday was Rochester’s warmest day in nearly two weeks.
The city’s official high temperature hit 9 degrees just after 1:00 pm - six hours after it bottomed out at -19. The high temp was still 20 degrees below average but it was the warmest since the city recorded 31 degrees on Feb 4.
The temperature rose above zero around 11:30 am for the first time since around 7:00 pm last Wednesday. That’s the 2nd longest sub-zero streak in city weather history. The longest is seven days, set in 1912.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the teens Wednesday, which would end another streak. Rochester has gone 12 days without reaching 10 degrees. That is also the 2nd longest streak on record. The longest is 15, also set in 1912.
The Rochester area could be basking in temperatures approaching 40 degrees Monday.
The city hasn’t been above freezing since Jan. 20th.
