Rochester Teenager Sentenced For Murder Conviction

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester teenager was sentenced today for a drug-related homicide.

19-year-old Robert Salley was given a sentence of 17 1/2 years in prison for shooting and killing 24-year-old Trevor Boysen in January of last year. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in January of this year. Salley also admitted to a felony weapons-related charge and was given a concurrent five-year prison sentence for that conviction.

He was arrested after Rochester police responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of The Quarters Apartment complex near the Rochester Community and Technical College campus and found Boysen fatally shot outside a vehicle and a half-dozen spent shell casings at the scene. A surveillance video shows Salley getting into the car and then firing a gun at the car right after he exited the vehicle. The video also shows Boysen getting out of the car and collapsing in the parking lot.

The criminal complaint says Salley told investigators he and Boysen exchanged "money and marijuana" and then Boysen pulled out a gun and told Salley he "had a bounty on his head." Salley, in his statement to the investigators, said the two men then fought over the gun and it fired approximately three times inside the car. He also admitted firing at the vehicle at least once while he was walking away.
