Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Customers of Rochester Public Utilities are being given a break from rising utility rates.

The RPU Board met this afternoon and approved the municipal utility's budget for next year that leaves both electric and water service rates unchanged. The reprieve is only expected to last one year. RPU staff is recommending 3.5-percent rate increases for electric and water service each year starting in 2022 and continuing through 2025.

The RPU budget and rate plan will next be presented to the Rochester City Council for final approval. That is expected to occur next month.
