The Rushford-Peterson came out run heavy and then did their damage through the air as they defeated the Kingsland Knights 54-12 to open up the high school football season on Cool 104.

The Trojans' offensive line was able to open up some holes early for running back Ethan Sense, as the senior scored two touchdowns on the ground and one through the air. It was all Sense on the first drive that set the tone for the Trojans. They followed that up with a phenomenal performance from Landon Skalet, who connected on 17-of-22 passes for 239 yards and five touchdowns.

It started out as all Rushford-Peterson, as Skalet hit Sense through the air for the first score of the game, and then Sense ran one in to make it 12-0. Skalet then connected with Kobe Lind twice for scores, then Triton Meldahl added a score on the ground to give the Trojans a 40-0 lead at the break.

Skalet connected with Lind once more and another score to Vinnie Mason to bolster the Trojans' lead.

The Trojans offense was already a well-oiled machine for week one and did a great job of moving the ball. Every play seemed to be for positive yards and it was too much for Kingsland to overcome.

The Knights did find some success in the short passing game. They were able to get Nick Ramaker into space with the screen game, as he led the team with four receptions but the Trojans were just too much.

The Knights were able to get two scores in the second half, and move the ball much better on offense that featured Ramaker as a playmaker from the QB postion, fullback, running back and even as a reciever.

Sense finished the game with 66 yards on the ground for Rushford-Peterson, while Meldahl finished with 61 yards. Lind had 10 catches for 132 yards and three scores.

Kingsland was led by Ramaker who had four catches for 29 yards.
