Second-Half Push Leads Grand Meadow Past LeRoy-Ostrander
A tight defensive battle in the first half turned into a shootout in the second. The #6 seeded Grand Meadow Superlarks offense was on fire en route to a 70-58 win over #11 seeded LeRoy-Ostrander in a Section 1A first-round game.
Grand Meadow jumped to an early 17-13 lead in the first half, but LeRoy-Ostrander was able to tighten things up defensively and trim the lead to one at the break, 27-26.
The second half was a different story. Both the Cardinals and the Superlarks were finding the bottom of the net with ease. With 14 minutes to go the game was tied at 32, then the Superlarks went on a huge 19-2 run that all started with an Austin Funk dunk.
Funk was electric in the second half, scoring 17 of his 19 points in the second half including two huge dunks to lead the Superlarks to a 51-34 lead with around 8 minutes to go. The 19-2 run was capped off by back-to-back 3 pointers by Colt Landers and Ethan Gilbert.
LeRoy-Ostrander started to make a push by utilizing Riley Olson, who finished with 28 points, on the inside but the Superlarks were able to run the clock and continue to hit big shots down the stretch to get the 70-58 win.
Trey Hungerholt was again great for LeRoy-Ostrander has he had 19 points and numerous assists to keep the offense rolling, but the hot shooting of the Superlarks was just too much to overcome. Funk and Landers finished with 19 points, while Ethan Lane added 12 and Gilbert had 10 for Grand Meadow.
The win sends Grand Meadow to take on #3 Rushford-Peterson Monday evening in the Mayo Civic Auditorium. You will hear the action on Cool 104.
