Final Night of Social Lights in Rochester Canceled Due to Severe Weather [UPDATED]
UPDATE (3/5/22 11:00 AM): Due to the rising threat of severe weather, the Rochester Downtown Alliance has decided to cancel the final night of Social Lights and all activities today, Saturday, March 5.
The Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA), in consultation with the National Weather Service and the Rochester Police Department, decided the threat of severe weather was too great throughout the day to continue with the event safely and decided to cancel the event.
The RDA would like to thank everyone who attended Social Lights and the partners who made the event possible in 2022
Original Story:
Super sad news was just announced by the Rochester Downtown Alliance regarding plans for Social Lights and Fam Jam on Saturday, March 5th. Unfortunately, the weather is looking like it could be nasty with a threat of tornadoes, and changes to the event have been made due to safety concerns.
After consulting with the National Weather Service and the Rochester Police Department, the Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) has deemed it necessary to cancel Social Lights FAM JAM March 5.
The threat of severe inclement weather is high early in the day, with possible lightning and strong wind gusts predicted.
Safety at an event is a priority for RDA staff and the weather presents a hazard to that wellbeing.
A second potential storm is being monitored by the National Weather Service. The RDA will decide about the last night of Social Lights by 9 a.m. March 5. - Rochester Downtown Alliance
