The Spring Grove Lions had one of their toughest test of the season, and in the fourth quarter, they were able to pull away for their second straight state championship with a 40-18 win over Mountain Lake at U.S Bank Stadium Friday morning.

Alex Folz had four rushing touchdowns as the Lions were able to pull away in the final frame, in which Folz had three of his scores. The Lions got started early with a 7-yard Folz touchdown, but Mountain Lake was able to bounce back after a 52-yard touchdown run from Abraham Stoesz to make it 7-6, but before the first quarter was over the Lions were able to make it 14-6 on a 58-yard touchdown run from Tyler Kersten.

Kersten made it a two-score game with another touchdown in the third quarter, then Folz took over and put the icing on the cake of the state championship with an 88-yard touchdown run to put the game out of reach.

Drake Harder caught a 10-yard pass from Stoesz and Stoesz ran another one in to get the Wolverines to 18, but overall the Spring Grove offense was too much for Mountain Lake to handle.

With the win the Lions finished with a perfect season, behind Folz 257 rushing yards and four scores, while Kersten added 108 yards and two scores.
