There are some buildings that you pass by and you have to do a double-take. The architecture is so odd and you have to wonder why the building was designed that way. There's at least one of these in each state and a website called House Beautiful collected their list of the strangest building in each state. Minnesota's is just under 90 minutes from Rochester.

Since House Beautiful lists a strange building for every state of course I also wanted to check out the buildings in our neighboring states as well.

North Dakota's Strangest Building

North Dakota's strangest building according to House Beautiful is the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum. It's definitely not the strangest building on the list but House Beautiful points out that part of their list includes "peculiar buildings" and buildings "full of fascinating facts." This building mostly fits the latter.

South Dakota's Strangest Building

The Corn Palace is obviously South Dakota's strangest building. I don't think any explanation is needed here.

Iowa's Strangest Building

I'm not totally sure why the Iowa State Capitol Building is considered the strangest building in Iowa. I can only assume that it made the list because it's "full of fascinating facts" like the North Dakota building. It's also a really stunning building.

Wisconsin's Strangest Building

Wisconsin's strangest building is the Burke Brise Soleil at the Milwaukee Art Museum. While I'm sure you can learn a lot inside, the outside looks very odd.

And similar to Wisconsin's, Minnesota's strangest building is also an art museum, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum. This building is very cool but also the first time you see it you definitely do a double-take and part of you wonders if it's made of tin foil.
