The Spring Grove Lions had a great second half that helped push them to a big 69-40 win over the Kingsland Knights Friday night in Spring Valley in a Southeast Conference matchup.

The Lions led 28-19 at the break, and then came out firing to start the second half. Payton Leahy hit a three that turned into a four-point play after a foul to open the half. That started a big 30-9 run that pushed the Lions lead up to 58-28 with just over seven minutes to go in the game.

The Lions were relentless on the glass in the second half and did a great job of keeping Kingsland's offense uncomfortable to help push their run.

The Knights were great early in this game, jumping out and holding a lead for the first 10 minutes. They did a really good job of working the basketball inside and cutting to the basket. Some unfortunate turnovers for the Knights were the downfall in the second half, as they just couldn't get anything going.

The Lions were led by Leahy who finished with 18 points, while Caleb Nerstad finished with 13 and Caden Grinde with 12.

Brady Musel paced Kingsland with 12 while Reed Merkel and William Jahn finished with six.

The win pushed Spring Grove to 12-10 on the season with the win, while Kingsland fell to 6-17 with the loss.
