Memorial weekend is the kick-off to summer, or at least that's how I've always thought of it. It's thrilling to see the schedule of parades and festivals that are headed our way after a year of isolation.

Friday, June 4th, signals the beginning of Morristown's 36th Annual Dam Days! (Technically, the Miss Morristown Queen Pageant on Wednesday, June 2nd, commences the celebration, but Friday is the first full day of events.)

For a town of only 985 people, according to the 2019 census, they go BIG!

The celebration includes a medallion hunt, a beer garden, street dances, the RC demolition derby, a duck drop race, a farmers market, an amateur BBQ cookoff, and fireworks!

Here's a detailed list of events. Be warned. It's overwhelming.

Did I forget to mention the "Dam Days Parade?" According to the Morristown website, it is supposedly among the best of small-town parades in the upper Midwest, but I'll let you guys be the judge of that!

This event is rain or shine and will start at 7 pm on Friday. Now you may be thinking, that's a little late in the day for a parade, but that's because it's a TWILIGHT parade. Now I'm not exactly sure what that entails, but it sounds intriguing.

In summary, the "Dam Days" are a great way to spend the first official weekend of summer. Talk about fun for the whole family!

Who knows, maybe you'll catch me playing some bar bingo on Sunday at the Morristown American Legion!
