United Way of Olmsted County

The study issued by the United Way found rising wages for low income workers still failed to keep up with high inflation, leaving a growing number of households unable to cover their basic needs.

Imagine going to school on the first day but NOT having a backpack or the basic supplies that are needed. That is the reality for 3,400+ students in the Olmsted County area this 2024-2025 school year.

11 schools and districts have students that still need school supplies before the first day of school, including Byron, Rochester Public and Private Schools, Chatfield, Dover-Eyota, Pine Island, and Stewartville.

School starts in a few weeks and there are over 1,900 students that can't afford school supplies in Olmsted County.
