The St. Paul Winter Carnival Will Miss One Giant Attraction This Year
To date, the St. Paul Winter Carnival has built 36 Ice Palaces, all of different shapes and sizes...
But according to the Pioneer Press, you won't find one this year because on Wednesday, the Winter Carnival announced that won't be happening.
That's because the ice palace team wasn't able to secure the minimum $5 million it needed to cover the costs of the project to move forward.
The original plan was to extend the annual event to coincide with the Super Bowl in Minneapolis, which certainly would have been cool to see and would've been a huge conversation piece. The Super Bowl is Feb. 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The St. Paul Winter Carnival will run January 25 through February 10 this year, and it will feature dozens of events, including a couple new things.

But if you're really disappointed about this, don't worry: The Ice Castles will return to Stillwater this year!
