Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police and Olmsted County deputies responded to a couple of violent domestic incidents involving knives over the weekend.

Both are expected to result in second-degree assault charges. Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen says officers were called to a home in the 900 block of Fourth Avenue Southeast around 3:30 Sunday morning after a 28-year-old woman reported she spotted someone crouching next to her boyfriend's vehicle. She and the 28-year-old man then went outside and discovered the tires had been punctured and there was other damage.

That's when a man came charging around the corner of the residence. The couple reported he was holding a knife and charged at them trying to stab the 28-year-old man. Captain Moilanen says the woman recognized the attacker as the father of her child. No one was injured and he fled from the scene on foot.

The responding officers later located 26-year-old Michael Shulze of Rochester and took him into custody on felony assault and other charges.

The other incident was reported Friday afternoon in Byron where a 45-year-old man is accused of threatening his 72-year-old father with a knife after the two men got into an argument. A spokesman for the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says the father was pushed onto the floor of the family's home and Jerimey Hart got on top of the older man before he allegedly pulled out a seven-inch knife and held it above his head in a threatening manner.

A spokesman says Hart's 70-year-old mother responded by grabbing his arm and she and her husband were then able to get their son to drop the knife before calling 911.
