We're in for a mosquito filled summer. That's what Dr. Jonathan Oliver, a public health entomologist at the University of Minnesota says (so click the video to find the best itch stopper). He specializes in vector-borne diseases from the University of Minnesota. Vector-borne? What? From Google...

vec·tor /ˈvektər/
noun
2. an organism, typically a biting insect or tick, that transmits a disease or parasite from one animal or plant to another.

So, Jonathan Oliver specializes in mosquitos and ticks and infectious diseases. The good news is, we're unlikely to catch a horrible disease from all the mosquitos. The bad news? All the mosquitos! The good news? There's an easy way to stop the itch!

Will the mosquitos make you sick? Today Dr. Oliver was on Newstalk 1340 KROC-AM and 96.9 FM and said sure, you can get West Nile, which can cause encephalitis, but very few get that, and even fewer get La Crosse encephalitis. Both CAN kill you, but the likelihood is pretty small your average mosquito is going to give you a brain-swelling disease. (click HERE to hear the entire interview).
