Will Olmsted County Attorney Ostrem Retry Weiss Murder Case?
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem has until June 6th to decide what to do about the Alexander Weiss case.
An Olmsted County jury could not return a verdict in his murder case and a mistrial was declared Tuesday by District Court Judge Joseph Chase. He then scheduled the hearing to find out what Ostrem intends to do.
Ostrem told KROC AM News Wednesday he will meet with his staff and review the case, the trial, and the result before making a decision.
Ostrem could proceed with the same charge, amend the criminal complaint to add a lesser charge or file for a dismissal.
Ostrem feels he and his staff made the right decision when the 2nd-degree murder charge was filed last year after Weiss shot and killed 17-year-old Muhammed Rahim during a verbal confrontation that followed a minor traffic mishap.
